Since the creation of the University in the TWELFTH century, the first mission that took over was the custody and transmission of knowledge. The second mission was the research, which is initiated in the German universities in the NINETEENTH century. A third mission is incorporated in the middle of the TWENTIETH century in the universities in anglo-saxon, was the transfer of technology. In the beginning of this century has been added to the universities a new mission, not less important, is the dissemination of knowledge. Eleven years ago we started to schedule outreach activities in Science Week, organised by the Centre of Support to Innovation, Research and Transfer of Technology, campus of Alcoy. How to explain to the citizenry the importance of science? “A century ago when he was beginning to develop quantum physics none of the scientists that worked on it could imagine that you were to have applications. Today, however, all the electronics is based on that theory. Without this research we would not have computers, phones, appliances...”, so that when some believe that science is a luxury, when it is the leading cause of personal well-being and social we live in, is closing the door to developments that are not even imagined.
